END OF THE TERM POST

HELLOOOO👀 As the term ends, I want to share my thoughts on the course and say goodbye to everyone who has been following along. One of the best parts of this course was learning how to use different technology tools for teaching. I gained a lot of knowledge about how to design lesson plans that incorporate digital resources, which will definitely help me in my future career as a teacher. On the other hand, the course was difficult because there was a lot of homework each week. We had to create materials, design lesson plans, and complete other assignments. While using technology in the tasks was helpful, the amount of homework each week made the course feel a bit overwhelming at times. I sometimes struggled to balance all the assignments with my other responsibilities. The easiest part of the course was learning how to use new technology tools. It was fun and interesting to explore different platforms and resources that could improve my lessons. However, managing the weekly homewo...

Creating AI-integrated Teaching Material and Lesson Plan

Hello!  I’m excited to share the project we’ve been working on. For this task, we designed an engaging worksheet to help students plan a movie night using AI. We used Canva to create the worksheets, which included activities like matching sentences with genres and using ChatGPT to plan the event. Since it was a group assignment, we divided tasks to ensure everything ran smoothly. It was a fun activity to prepare, as it allowed us to combine creativity with technology, making the lesson both interactive and enjoyable for the students. Additionally, we prepared an ASSURE-based lesson plan for this task, ensuring the learning objectives and materials were carefully aligned to support student engagement. I'm excited to see how the students engage with the material and how it enhances their learning experience. Thank you for reading! Feel free to share your comments and thoughts below. Creating an AR/VR Integrated Teaching Material

Hello everyone! 😊 I want to share the experience of our homework project. We had to use AR (Augmented Reality) or VR (Virtual Reality) to make language learning more interesting, and we decided to use AR with my group friends.  AR   adds digital images or information to the real world. For example, when you use an app on your phone or tablet, AR can show you extra details or images on the screen, like a 3D model of a building or labels on objects. AR doesn’t change the real world, it just adds things to it. VR is different because it creates a completely new, virtual world. When you use VR, you are taken into a different environment that is not real. You usually wear a headset that covers your eyes and sometimes headphones for sound, which makes you feel like you are actually inside the virtual world. These technologies are changing the way we learn by making it more interactive and fun. AR adds digital images to the real world, and VR allows you to explore v...

Creating a Flipped Classroom Video

Hello everyone! 😊 I want to share our experience of creating a vocabulary teaching video for a flipped classroom. Our teacher assigned this homework and gave us two weeks to complete it. We worked as a group of four. The process was challenging, but we shared the tasks as a group. For this task, we picked the Fıtness unit from the MEB Grade 5 English coursebook and focused on teaching key vocabularies about it. At first, our teacher suggested tools like Powtoon, Edpuzzle, and Animaker, but we decided to use Canva because it was easier and faster for us. Canva allowed us to add visuals, animations, and our own voice recordings to make the video more interesting. After finishing the video, we created a quiz using Wordwall to help students practice the vocabulary. We wanted the video to be engaging and informative, so we created a story around a sporty family, the Smith Family, who would help introduce the vocabulary. The flipped classroom approach allows students to learn ne...

Creating a Corpus-Based Teaching Material

Hello everyone I hope you’re fine and ready to learn something new! As for me, my exams ended a week ago, but I still feel exhausted. However, since it has been a semester nearly full of assignments, I know I must keep going💪.  Today, I want to share my experiences as an assignment about how my friends created a teaching material and lesson plan using the ASSURE model and a linguistic tool, COCA (Corpus of Contemporary American English) to help students learn the difference between say and tell.    The lesson encourages exploration and critical thinking, making it more engaging for the students. We started by choosing our vocabulary items: say-tell from the MEB coursebook. Then, as a corpus, we chose COCA. Our objective was for students to be able to distinguish between them using real-life examples to make learning easier after completing the material with the help of COCA.  In our lesson plan, we combined teacher-led instruction with student-centered activities. S...

Guess Who's Back?

Image
Hello everyone! 😎 It’s hard to believe it’s already been 3 years since I started my university journey.  I’m excited to be back on this blog! 👀 Last year, I started this blog for my 'ICT and Material Design in ELT class', where we posted on different topics as part of our homework. It was my first experience with blogging, and I found it exciting to explore this new way of sharing ideas. I enjoyed writing about educational topics, and it became a fun way to reflect on what I was learning. This year, I’m continuing with this blog for my new course, Current Issues in Teaching. In this course, we’ll look at what’s happening in education today, the issues teachers face, and new ideas and methods in teaching. My posts will focus on these current topics and how they shape our understanding of teaching. I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts on these subjects and hearing your ideas too. I missed being here, so I’m glad to have a reason to post again! I hope this blog continue...

End of Term

"With this final post, I've reached the bittersweet end of my journey as a second-year ELT student. I'll be sharing both the positive and negative aspects of my experiences with the ICT courseespecially on using technology in English Language Teaching (ELT). Stay tuned!" Before taking the ICT course, I hadn't considered completely the role of technology in English language teaching and was unsure of its benefits. However, the course has significantly changed my views. We had assignments using the various tools almost every week like making podcasts, digital stories, infographics, and  Magic School AI tool etc. Among these activities, making infographics was my favorite. This task let me show complex information clearly and in a visually appealing way. It also helped me get better at organizing and emphasizing important data. However, while all tools were useful, I found the digital story task less enjoyable. It was hard to create engaging stories that also fit edu...
